Ride to Greyton
Discover Greyton by motorbike. Ride along this scenic bike route and visit some great 'stop spots' - for a leg stretch or a bite to eat.

This (above) is a stunning restaurant based in the village, which is run by two gay boys - you can just imagine the décor.! Just a really nice place to go and chill.
Most of the routes outside of Cape Town start either on the N1 or the N2. This route one must take via the N2 and as bikers are creatures of habit we enjoy having a "pit stop" on a Sunday morning, bright and breezy, at the N2 Engen 1 Stop Garage. We fill up and then hover around and catch up on the weeks "ins and outs" with our mates. From about 08h00 to 08h30, the guys start moving out to their various destinations. On this particular morning, myself and a number of my mates decided to head to Greyton. As you leave the N2 garage you head on through Somerset West and up toward Sir Lowrys pass. This is a beautiful pass, but beware of the wind if it is up, you best hold on to those handle bars and strangely enough the quicker you go the less the wind effects you. As you exit the pass you head on past Grabouw and on towards Hou Hoek. Feel free to stop at Hou Hoek, but I would not advise it. The Hou Houk restaurant or hotel is a mere 30kms from the N2 Engen, so you have barely warmed up before stopping. Not advisable.
Shortly after Hou Hoek, there is another mountain pass with some great twists and turns as you head on up the N2 highway. Let me tell you a little story... A great friend of mine was riding with us one morning (not on this particular trip) and we all opened our throttles through the pass and just let our hair down. The dice was awesome as there was a number of us riding together and mixing it up. And Buddy (as we know him) overshot the one corner. He just could not get the bike down enough through the corner. He then picked the bike up and carried onstraight on to the 'run off' area alongside the road and literally stopped his front wheel inches away from the edge of the cliff. Needless to say we all rode home nice and slow after that for the day. We have some great passes in the Western Cape but please be careful. Back to the route.... Just after the pass you have some high speed gentle bends to the left and right, while the road goes up and down hills. You pass the Villiersdorp turnoff and just keep heading on. As you approach Caledon, which is maybe 3 kms after the Greyton turn off, you turn left and then head on towards Greyton. Caledon is just another one of many great places to go. The road surfaces are simply awesome and they twist and wind in all kinds of directions, with the occasional shepard herding his stock on the side of the road behind the farmers fence. Greyton is certainly a very tiny town with only one road in and one road out. But every establishment you stop at for a bite to eat has a wonderful ambience and the setting is normally just out of this world. This particular morning we stopped at this restaurant that is run by two gay chaps. Let me tell you they serve the best brekkie. We all sat in the back yard of this restaurant and enjoyed each others conversation and the typically awesome South African sun before we ate our food. These one-horse towns always seem to have so much character and generally the people you meet that reside there are so down-to-earth and all seem extremely relaxed. They are probably just "high" on life. On another morning we stopped at a different restaurant which is based as you enter into the town. On that particular morning our mate, Michael made his maiden trip on his brand new

. What a piece of work she is.! I hope you enjoy some of the pics of this wonderful motorcycle (yet very uncomfortable to ride, but looks great). The particular restaurant that we stopped at on this morning is also just out of this world. They seem to just get things right in towns like this.

Custom Search You can sit in the restaurant or, on a nice summers day the gardens are the best place to have a nice "brekkie" (breakfast).

Divine lush gardens. What a place to have a bite and a chat after a bit of a ride.!!

All the hooligans have a peak at the camera.
