Du Toit's Kloof Lodge & Trout Farm
Take a relaxed scenic motorbike ride to Du Toit's Kloof Lodge and trout farm on the northern side of the Hugenot tunnel on the N1.
As it was fairly late in the morning on this day we did not want to go too far, so we (my wife and I) rode north up the N1. I decided at the very least I had to have some good corners to take on the journey. Just after Paarl one has the choice to either venture off the N1 freeway and take the old main road that goes over Du Toit's Kloof pass or to go through the Huguenot tunnel. Guess what we chose.?
Yes, we went the scenic route... over the pass. After all, the longer route to your destination by bike is normally the more fun way to go. The road was clean with very little traffic, so we had a really great opportunity to hang off the handle bars and give the ZX14 some open throttle.!! Yeehha!
After many corners and nearing the end of the pass there was a bunch of bikers that had pulled off the road to take some pictures and have a smoke break. We were greeted like royalty as we rode by. That is the one of the many aspects of biking that I love.... Bikers are always friendly and make an effort to greet a fellow biker.

Where the pass road and the end of the tunnel meet up again there is the turn-off to Du Toit's Kloof Lodge. In all the years of biking I had never stopped at this trout farm as this is right in the beginning of the long high speed corners on route to Worcester. Man, was I impressed.!
The place is clean and neat. Nestled between the mountain passes - and the weather was just awesome.! We had a great breakfast and enjoyed some quality time alone. We did not fish for any trout, but we made a firm decision to do just that on another trip here. There are rolling green lawns between the 7 trout dams and braai facilities scattered around so that one can grill one's freshly-caught trout under the sunny skies. The prospect made my mouth water.!
On route back over Du Toit's Kloof pass we rode past the same folks that had stopped earlier for a smoke break and a chat in the mountains. They were also about to head back to Cape Town. As I sped past them they took the opportunity to come and have some fun with us. I am always up for the' dice' (race), so I took them on... and I am pleased to say that we got through the pass in ahead of them. It was exactly the adrenalin rush I needed before I got home to the usual – mow the lawn, wash the car, feed the dog..... type stuff.
I hope you enjoyed these photos. Take care and chat soon. Wayne
