My favourite bike rides

Along some of the most scenic routes in and around the Western Cape, South Africa.

Below is a list of my favourite bike rides I have been on. Some of the routes go inland along majestic mountain passes that are snow-capped in winter. While other motorbike routes pass through some of the world famous Cape wine lands, boasting International award-winning wines. Or perhaps you prefer the seaside routes passing though quaint villages.?

You could ride the routes alone or in a group - although perhaps, like me, you would prefer the company of your friends to share these magical moments with.

Special note: Though I ride a road bike, you will find that the routes would suit touring bikes as well, only at a more relaxed pace.

• Helshoogte Pass Every time my friends and I head for the pass on route to Franschoek for breakfast, I am struck by its beauty and riding pleasure.
  
  
• Route 62 A long and diverse route to take on the eastern side of the Western Cape, South Africa.
  
  
• Cape Point via Simonstown : Ride to Cape Point, the nature reserve area and famous seaside tourist spot, and back to Cape Town.
  
  
• Ceres Via Goudini : Ride this route to Ceres, in the Western Cape, via the Goudini Spa.
  
  
• Rooi Els : A small village, famous for its magnificent views over False Bay, East Coast.
  
  
• Garden Routes : Luscious East Coast Garden Route through Knysna on to Plettenberg Bay.
  
  
• Riebeekkasteel via Ceres : Ride through Ceres to Riebeek Kasteel : A meandering bike route on various interesting roads like the R46.
  
  
• Greyton : Discover Greyton village by motorbike.
  
  
• Hout Bay to Blouberg : From Hout Bay to Blouberg via Constantia and Kirstenbosch Gardens on your motorbike.
  
  
• Blouberg to Hout Bay : West Coast Western Cape at Blouberg to Hout Bay via Sea Point, Clifton, Camps Bay and Llandudno.
  
  
• Pringle Bay : Discover quaint Pringle bay on the East Coast.
